First Netbook with DVD Drive?

Rumours are abound that Asus are gearing up to release the first netbook to feature a DVD burner in April. The EeePC 1004DN will have an optical drive, and it seems unlikely that this would come in the form of either just a CD-ROM or a read-only DVD. Even more unlikely would be a Blu-Ray device, because of the unthinkable effect on the price.

Thinking back, the lack of an optical drive on all netbooks models up to now is down to one thing – Asus didn’t have one in theirs, and now it looks set to change.

Since the love of sub 10-inch notebooks seems to be well and truly over by most manufacturers, will the extra space be widely adopted for DVD drives?
