Netbook Sales Predicted to Expand by 66% in 2009

netbook_sales_growthPredictions from NPD Research show that netbook sales should continue to expand rapidly by 66% during this year. Despite the current economic situation, netbook sales are strong. Much stronger in fact than sales of regular laptops or desktop PCs.

Our view is that the economic climate is actually helping netbooks. Since they are cheaper, not only are people who originally intended to buy a netbook as a second (or third) PC buying them, but people who ‘just want a PC’ for home use are liking the price and jumping on the same bandwagon.

The true story probably won’t really be clear until the recession is over and things settle back down again, but we’d expect the situation to settle down again.

If the recession goes on for a long long while, by the end there could even be a lot of people needing to upgrade their gaming machines to play the latest games.

Only time will tell here.
